I absolutely love the quiet. It is hard to find a quiet place in my life to sit and just be. My work place is loud and my house is loud. Sometimes I have to just escape, but today I don’t have to go anywhere. I am home alone and it is so very quiet. Though I am still recouping from being sick, I plan to enjoy the quiet today. I have no voice since my friend laryngitis has come to visit, so I will not have to answer the phone. I have the TV off and hid the remote, so when my husband comes home it will still be quiet for a bit. You would think since our girls left home our house would be quieter now than when we were raising children, but it is about the same.
God comes to us when we are still. If you listen in the quiet and keep you mind focused, God will meet you where you are. Matthew 6:6 says, “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” Find that quiet place in your life and pray there. There is something reverent about quiet. In today’s world it is very hard to find quiet and more difficult still to avoid the distractions of modern life.
To truly hear God, we must shut the world off. When we get in that place, out prayer place, and focus only on God, we are following Jesus. Remember when Jesus went to the garden to pray. He went to a quiet place alone. This is not to say that God won’t talk to you in a crowded place, but if we place ourselves deliberately where we can focus only on God, we are demonstrating our faith. We are showing Him that He is important enough in our lives for our undivided attention.
