Hi, My name is Lori Leigh and I am a bibliophile.
Well, I am more than that, to say I am a bibliophile is an understatement. I am in many ways I am a typical Christian/librarian/writer/girly girl and in other ways I am not so typical.
Yes, I can even write about sex, drugs, rock n roll, or any other topic often thought of as off-limits for a Christian. Take everything you think a Christian/librarian/writer/girly girl should be or is supposed to be and erase it from your mind. I am not that person.
There should be an AA group for bookaholics like there is for alcoholics. I admit it. I am addicted to books. I have as of last count, 880. I am still working on getting them all cataloged. I tried to say that I was not buying any more until I read everything on my shelf. Well, that was not going to happen and I knew when I said it. I can think of worse things in this world to be addicted too…drugs…money….sex….beer….wine….wait, I like wine…but I love books. Not just the kind that should be read for knowledge and learning but fiction too. I read what draws me to it. I don’t always read what is on the bestseller list, other times I do.I always read books that are movies before seeing the movie. This keeps the Hollywood influence out of my imagination while reading. Books to me are like an out-of-body experience.
My obsession with books goes hand in hand with my obsession of writing. “All writers must be well read” said a professor during a class on Hemingway. I agree that is true but the question is what makes a person well read? There is great debate over that one. Read the classics that interest you and then read some that don’t. Read what you like and what others say you might like. If you can’t read through the first couple of chapters without your mind wandering to other things in your life or if you dread having to finish it, then put it down or throw it out the front door. (No tossing a library book please.) Read what speaks to you.
I update my blog often baring, catastrophes. Like me, this web site is an ongoing often changing project. I am currently working on other writing projects, so as a result there may be gaps in time on my blog.
Speaking of time, thank you for yours; I know how busy life gets. Thank you for reading and sharing this journey with me.
